BAPV (Building Applied Photovoltaic)
Conventional PV modules that are retrofitted onto existing building surfaces, commonly on the roof top. The PV modules are installed onto a separate structure, such as a frame or rack, which is then attached to the building. BAPV is often used in large-scale solar projects, as it is cost-effective and can be installed quickly. Additionally, BAPV is flexible as it can be moved or adjusted to capture more sunlight.
BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic)
BIPV modules –replacing conventional building elements with structural materials incorporating PV modules such as tiles, skylight and façade. It serves dual purpose of generating energy while forming overall aesthetic of the building.
An illustration of a building with PIBV. It functions similarly to a conventional PV panels but is specially designed to be integrated into the building structure. It does not require additional support structure or adding extra space, having various sizes, shapes and colors to fit the building design and aesthetic.
